Traditional Medicine Failed Me!

I want to share a bit of my journey that has led me to be so passionate about Myofascial Release and teaching Myofascial self-care to my patients and other Therapists.

I was in my early 40’s when my body seemed to start falling apart.  I had been active in my youth, playing basketball, track, and even college soccer.  As an adult, I loved to garden, landscape, hike in the woods, camp in the pristine Boundary Waters Canoe Area, etc.   I used to take my dogs for long walks with my neighbors in the woods near our house.  It was a stress reliever, and “good exercise” as we talked about upcoming things, life, and our frustrations and stressors.

Something started to shift.  I started to have trouble walking.  My left hip would catch and cause a sharp pain that would stop me in my tracks. I occasionally had pinching in my low back that made it hard to stand for long periods.  It definitely became problematic with walking and sleeping.  I’d be ok walking for a little bit, but then the pain would start to increase and I had to stop and turn back.  I would wake up in the night with pain in my hip or back and have a hard time getting comfortable.

I was surviving on hot and cold packs, sports creams, and over the counter pain pills, but they weren’t cutting it.  I wasn’t getting any better, in fact, I was getting worse.  I finally decided to call my doctor who recommended PT.

But my problems were only beginning...
